South All Stars hold on to lead, Morley wins derby

The HR Derby was delayed by a little sprinkle, but was played in full.
In the 1st round (of 2) Jordan Poole (Redbirds) hit bombs, I think he hit 8, I dont remember because I was in the field catching them. But it was him and Jacob Morley, who I think had 4 HRs. Morley won. Again i'm sorry I don't have all of the details, you can probably find them on the Big Trains e-mail, you can sign up for it at bigtrain.org on the right side of the page.

In the actual game, Matt Bowman started, he threw one inning, allowing a walk and no runs.
Martin Agosta pitched in the 2nd with a perfect inning with 2 k's.
Austin Poretz (Nationals) pitched in the 3rd allowing 2 hits and a walk but no runs. Alex Hudak saved him with an awesome throw to Hunter Renfroe from left field to nail the runner at the plate by a mile.
Kelly Secrest (4th inning) and Tucker Donahue (6th inning) also pitched perfect innings.
Mike Aldrete came in to pitch in the 8th with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd. The runner on 2nd was the game tying run. He pitched out of it and pitched the 9th perfect as well.

Big Train Hitters

Alex Hudak 2-4 Run
Adam Barry 0-4
Hunter Renfroe 0-3 K
Brenden Kalfus 1-2 Run
Michael Bass 1-3 HBP

MVP : Alex Hudak (Game saving throw in the 3rd, 2-4 run)
Runner-up / My honorable mention :  Ryan Dietrich 2-2, 2 RBI, 2 Doubles
And you can't forget to mention Chris Bzozowski's bomb to center field over the scoreboard in the 8th!
And during scouting day, earlier in the day, Big Train's catcher Hunter Renfroe threw 98 MPH off of the mound. 98!!!!!!

Max Knowles continues dominating getting another win, 7 strikeouts, and lowering his ERA to 1.40 by allowing only 1 run in 7 innings. Cameron Love got the loss allowing only 2 runs in 6 innings. Bryan Hamilton and Hugh Adams kept their ERA at 0 combining the last 3 innings. It was a quiet night for the Big Train on offense. Big Train shutout Aces, Knowles

The Big Train got 6 base runners on Max Knowles the best pitcher in the league but couldn't score any runs in the 4 innings he pitched. He improved his strikeout total 40. And he will remain 4-2 getting a no decision. The top 4 batters in Bethesda's lineup all had great nights. Here are their stats.
# 5 Connor Bernatz (2-5) 2 runs
# 23 Nick Vickerson (3-5) 2 run HR, 2 runs, 3 RBI
# 22 Danny Stienstra (2-4) run, walk
# 8 Jarrod Parks (2-3) run, 2 RBI, HBP
Jarrod Parks has now been hit by pitch in 3 consecutive games
vs. Nationals 5 times
vs. Nationals 2 times
vs. Aces 1 time
Seth Williams also had a pinch hit double to right center field in the 9th. He later came around to score. The senior from Michigan State now has 3 at-bats, 1 double, and 1 run. He also pitched 1 inning and struck out 2 allowing no base runners in Tuesdays game.
Bryan Hamilton got into trouble in the 9th with runners on the corners to lead off the inning but he struck out 3 batters to end the game and keep the shutout.

5 More Games!

July 16th @ Rockville Express: Big Train win 9-0! Eli Boike and Justin Roland both doubled twice, Luke Adkins tripled, and Jarrod Parks hit a Homerun. The Big Train's pitchers held the Express to only 3 hits. Big Train 9-0.

July 17th vs. Alexandria Aces: The Big Train dominated again winning 10-2! Connor Bernatz, Eli Boike, Danny Stienstra, and Nick Rodda all doubled, Luke Adkins tripled again. Big Train 10-2.

July 18th @ Alexandria Aces: The Big Train's offense failed by only getting 1 run and scattering 7 hits. A couple players got 2 hits including Eli Boike, Luke Adkins, and Ryan Mulligan. The other hit by Jarrod Parks. Aces 2-1.

July 19th @ College Park Bombers: Shades of 08' Bombers won 24-2 last year and now 13-3! They played in Germantown so I could have gone but the Big Train website said they played at the Naval Academy. So since I wasn't there they lost again. Bombers 13-3.

July 20th @ Alexandria Aces: The Big Train got back into their rythym beating the Alexandria Aces 13-6. We are now holding onto 1st place by 1 game and we have played 2 more games then the 2nd place Orioles. So we could loose 1st place for the 1st and probably the only time this season. Big Train 13-6.

July 1st Creepy Pic

#35 Adrian Lorenzo of the Alexandria Aces does bat tricks in the Pre-Game warm-ups and this picture captured a strange second.=^

July 1st Game

Rain,Rain, Go Away! The Big Train only played a 5 innings tonight but guess what? They Won! 1-0! The only run was scored in the last inning on a solo shot by Jarrod Parks. Eli Boike one of the other great hitters on the team should have gotten his 9th double of the season and put him alone at the top but a Terrible call at second base robbed him of it. (Hit shown above)
