The HR Derby was delayed by a little sprinkle, but was played in full.
In the 1st round (of 2) Jordan Poole (Redbirds) hit bombs, I think he hit 8, I dont remember because I was in the field catching them. But it was him and Jacob Morley, who I think had 4 HRs. Morley won. Again i'm sorry I don't have all of the details, you can probably find them on the Big Trains e-mail, you can sign up for it at bigtrain.org on the right side of the page.
In the actual game, Matt Bowman started, he threw one inning, allowing a walk and no runs.
Martin Agosta pitched in the 2nd with a perfect inning with 2 k's.
Austin Poretz (Nationals) pitched in the 3rd allowing 2 hits and a walk but no runs. Alex Hudak saved him with an awesome throw to Hunter Renfroe from left field to nail the runner at the plate by a mile.
Kelly Secrest (4th inning) and Tucker Donahue (6th inning) also pitched perfect innings.
Mike Aldrete came in to pitch in the 8th with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd. The runner on 2nd was the game tying run. He pitched out of it and pitched the 9th perfect as well.
Big Train Hitters
Alex Hudak 2-4 Run
Adam Barry 0-4
Hunter Renfroe 0-3 K
Brenden Kalfus 1-2 Run
Michael Bass 1-3 HBP
MVP : Alex Hudak (Game saving throw in the 3rd, 2-4 run)
Runner-up / My honorable mention : Ryan Dietrich 2-2, 2 RBI, 2 Doubles
And you can't forget to mention Chris Bzozowski's bomb to center field over the scoreboard in the 8th!
And during scouting day, earlier in the day, Big Train's catcher Hunter Renfroe threw 98 MPH off of the mound. 98!!!!!!

Express win again
The Big Train continued their slump against the Express on Friday. Elliot Waterman pitched 4 innings allowing 3 runs to start off the game. But the Big Train got right back in the game in the 6th inning when Hunter Renfroe hit another home run! This time, a 2 run home run to bring Bethesda back within a run. David Wayne Russo and Martin Agosta combined to pitch the remainder of the 5 innings scoreless but it wasnt enough as Hunter's home run was the only offense of the night and the Big Train went 3 up, 3 down in the 9th. Stay tuned as I will be giving away a FREE Big Train individual season pass for this 2011 season! (Details soon)

Smaller Train
Its hard to come up with a clever name when both teams are trains. But the Big Train weren't so big on Saturday as they got destroyed 12-4. The Express were hitting from the first batter of the game as they scored 2 in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, and 2 more in the 4th inning. And at the end of the 4th, Bethesda was trailing 8-0. Patrick Keane was roughed up in the only 1.2 innings he pitched as he allowed 4 earned runs. Josh Schneider came in to get the final out of the 2nd, but was beaten up for 3 runs in the other 2 innings he pitched allowing a homerun to left field off the bat of Carlos Saade in the 3rd inning. Rockville went scoreless in the 5th, just to score 4 more in the 6th off of Bethesda's Tucker Donahue (Senior, Stetson). Martin Agosta and Mike Aldrete cleaned up the last 1/3 of the game allowing 0 runs and only one hit. Bethesda's offense continues to struggle but Michael Bass played well Saturday batting 2-5 with a double, stolen base, and 2 RBI. Sophomore Hunter Renfroe from Mississippi State debuted Saturday. He went 0-4, but every out was in play and hit hard (VIDEO). Remarkably, the Big Train lead the league in hits so far this season. Rockville's top 1/3 of their lineup was stellar, combining for 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 RBI, and 2 walks. What seemed like and easy win turned into a blowout. Bethesda plays Herndon later today to try to snap their worst losing streak of the season! 2 games!

Big Train split doubleheader with Express
#9 Brennan Middleton throws out an Express runner in game 2 of the doubleheader.Game 1:
The Big Train dropped the first game in the 9th inning when Kasey Culverson hit a sac fly with no outs and the bases loaded to win the game. Bryan Hamilton was pitching at the time but the run was unearned so he still hasn't allowed 1 earned run this whole season. He pitched 1 inning and struck out 1 batter. Connor Bernatz had a good night with a double, single, and a run. Only Danny Stienstra, Mason Morioka, Austin Harclerode, and Nick Schneeberger got hits. (one each) No Big Train players got any RBIs in the game either. Jose Velasquez allowed 2 hits and 0 runs over 3 innings pitched.
Game 2:
The Big Train started the scoring early in the first with 2 runs, and continued scoring until the 6th when Carl Gorman came on in relief of Joe Hasse who allowed 7 runs (3 earned) over 5 innings. On the other hand, Patrick Keane pitched 5 innings striking out 8 batters and only allowing 4 base runners and none of them scored. Mike Kent and Jimmy Reid each pitched an inning allowing 1 hit and no runs. Ryan Collins lead the offense for another night with 3 hits, one being a triple, 2 RBIs, and a run. The Orioles and Redbirds both won.

Redbirds Lose, Big Train take 1st place
The Big Train scored 9 runs again on the Express for the 2nd game in a row. With Cody Freeman leading the offence with 4 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs, and a double. He also hit his 3rd homerun on the season tying him with the team lead with Nick Vickerson his college teammate. Danny Stienstra also had a pair of hits driving in 2 runs and scoring 1. Matt Bowman got a 4 inning save allowing only one baserunner on a hit. His ERA is now 0.87! The Redbirds lost to the struggling Nationals 4-3 to end their 10 game winning streak. The Redbirds and Orioles will square off tomorrow so one of them will lose. Bethesda is now in 1st place tied with the Orioles if they lose tonight then the Big Train own first place with a half game lead over Baltimore. The Big Train will be going up against the Aces and possibly Max Knowles who has 4 wins (LL) , 40 strikeouts (LL) , and a 1.41 ERA (3rd) .

5 More Games!
July 16th @ Rockville Express: Big Train win 9-0! Eli Boike and Justin Roland both doubled twice, Luke Adkins tripled, and Jarrod Parks hit a Homerun. The Big Train's pitchers held the Express to only 3 hits. Big Train 9-0.

July 18th @ Alexandria Aces: The Big Train's offense failed by only getting 1 run and scattering 7 hits. A couple players got 2 hits including Eli Boike, Luke Adkins, and Ryan Mulligan. The other hit by Jarrod Parks. Aces 2-1.
July 19th @ College Park Bombers: Shades of 08' Bombers won 24-2 last year and now 13-3! They played in Germantown so I could have gone but the Big Train website said they played at the Naval Academy. So since I wasn't there they lost again. Bombers 13-3.
July 20th @ Alexandria Aces: The Big Train got back into their rythym beating the Alexandria Aces 13-6. We are now holding onto 1st place by 1 game and we have played 2 more games then the 2nd place Orioles. So we could loose 1st place for the 1st and probably the only time this season. Big Train 13-6.
