Extra inning victory

The Big Train got off to a good start in Calvert Hall on Thursday as they went ahead 2-0 after 4 and a half innings. But the game quickly turned around after that as Baltimore scored 3 quick runs in the 5th and 6th to take the lead. Alot of zeros were put up from then until a clutch 2 out RBI hit from Brennan Middleton tied it in the 9th scoring Brenden Kalfus who doubled to lead off the inning. Josh Schneider came in to pitch and shut down the Redbirds allowing Adam Barry to score Mike Aldrete on an RBI single in the 10th inning. Aldrete hit a 2-out triple to get on base. Mike also came on to get the save in the bottom of the 10th. A very questionable call in left field ended the game as Tim Wise made a nice catch but the Redbirds did not think he caught the ball, but the game was over. Bethesda improves to 14-3 and #21 in the nation.

Smaller Train

Its hard to come up with a clever name when both teams are trains. But the Big Train weren't so big on Saturday as they got destroyed 12-4. The Express were hitting from the first batter of the game as they scored 2 in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, and 2 more in the 4th inning. And at the end of the 4th, Bethesda was trailing 8-0. Patrick Keane was roughed up in the only 1.2 innings he pitched as he allowed 4 earned runs. Josh Schneider came in to get the final out of the 2nd, but was beaten up for 3 runs in the other 2 innings he pitched allowing a homerun to left field off the bat of Carlos Saade in the 3rd inning. Rockville went scoreless in the 5th, just to score 4 more in the 6th off of Bethesda's Tucker Donahue (Senior, Stetson). Martin Agosta and Mike Aldrete cleaned up the last 1/3 of the game allowing 0 runs and only one hit. Bethesda's offense continues to struggle but Michael Bass played well Saturday batting 2-5 with a double, stolen base, and 2 RBI. Sophomore Hunter Renfroe from Mississippi State debuted Saturday. He went 0-4, but every out was in play and hit hard (VIDEO). Remarkably, the Big Train lead the league in hits so far this season. Rockville's top 1/3 of their lineup was stellar, combining for 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 RBI, and 2 walks. What seemed like and easy win turned into a blowout. Bethesda plays Herndon later today to try to snap their worst losing streak of the season! 2 games!
